Crocodile Isle
That isn't the name of this island about a mile or two offshore of my village. The real name may have a rest. For now, when I contemplate the image, I see the snout of a very complicated crocodile. The story of how such a crocodile came to be an island along Nova Scotia's Granite Coast is itself long and involved, too much so to present here. What is worth noting in this brief moment is the thought that crossed the great reptile's mind when it discovered it was through having to kill for a living.
"What peace has come to me! I don't deserve ..."
And then came the crocodile tears, which were not insincere, not at all, not in this case. And which the great salt ocean took right in, as a welcoming gesture.
