Magic Never Grows Old
I once did a story on grey whales calving in Magdalena Bay. Every time the small boats went out to mingle with the whales, I went too, entranced at being able to touch the magnificent creatures and their barnacles too. Then I noticed the guys from network TV had stopped going and instead spent their time playing poker aboard the big boat. I asked why and was told, "Seen one whale, seen 'em all."
We've all seen an abundance of flowers in our lives. Yet I feel about them just as I did about the whales. Every time one appears, I know magic has found me.
These are the first in my garden this year. I noticed them today. Then I noticed them again. Then I stopped what I was doing and took time to remark the event.
Magic never grows old. When we remember that, neither do we.
