Garuda
Garuda figures in multiple faiths. In Buddhism, it denominates a flying figure that never lands, which represents outrageousness. There is no garuda in this photo because it is soaring above the cloud. We need not worry about encountering one while flying in an airplane. The outrageousness at play here is a quality of one's own mind. It's brought forth by meditation. First as we meditate we discover that our thoughts are not us but only the play of the mind. This discovery begins deflating the deceptive processes of ego. A great weight slips from our mind as the deflation continues, till at a certain point there is a lightness of being that will never grow heavy again. We become open and spacious, kind and compassionate, in our relief. Thus we "slip the surly bonds of earth". Thus we soar in our lives. And since we have seen through the deceptions that cause the heaviness, we need never be overwhelmed by it again. We need never land, so to speak. This is in fact, if I may say so, what flying dreams touch into. Happy trails!
