When the Sun Is Here But the Storm Is Near

We feel at odds (or might) with everything that is
when finally we have made it to the perfect place
where even the impending storm is a setting
for the jewel that the sunlight has made of the island

because why? Because we cannot remain.
Because the mainland is far and we cannot afford to be caught
in open ocean where wind and wave threaten rather than delight.

The very moment of beauty engenders danger.
The very instant of bliss spells its end. How could this be? We want an answer
when even the question takes too long to ask.
Oh life! Oh love! Wish you could stay, my fickle dears.
