Fences and the Great Expanse

Literally, the fences here are to keep visitors away from eroded terrain. The view beyond is dominated by sea and sky, which know no erosion. Metaphorically, we set up fences in our mind to avoid contact with painful situations. They're not very good fences. They're easily bypassed and subject to the corrosive influences of age and neglect. So suffering finds us anyway. But if we have the view beyond, of the great expanse of our original nature, then we cease to be so concerned with situations that, in reality, are just situations in a dream. It doesn't mean we dismiss them, but now we can handle them with equanimity, which releases wisdom and compassion.
