The Lighthouse at Paddy's Head
"Sure and it's not the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove," said Little Mac. "It's not even easy to get there. And there ain't no gift shop or restaurant. So what's the big deal? Why can't we just take a picture and be done with it?"
"Because," said Big Bertha. "Because there wouldn't be no tour buses or crowds. Because it's intimate, like. You just go and nothing happens, I guess. Nothing to write home about. No souvenirs. No meal to wait forever for and then complain about all the way home. No black rocks. No cosmic experience. Just a touchstone. Just going a little further for no reason and with no reward. Except maybe I'll give you a kiss."
"Gee, Bertie," said Little Mac. "You're so infernal deep. I just can't stand it sometimes. Here I was ready to break the bank for your birthday. And you want to go to the Paddy's Head lighthouse where nothing happens. Except maybe you'll give me a kiss."
"Except for sure I will."
"Well, all right then."
Forgetting he'd never turned the engine off, he tried to turn it on again. He smiled sheepishly and shrugged his shoulders at the grinding noise that resulted. And Bertha laughed. And he laughed. And then she kissed him then and there.
