Yolmo 4 - Stopping for Supplies

Yolmo is far up in the mountains and generally in need of supplies. Our main freight was a generator so the retreat centre can continue to be rebuilt through power outages. But also they have no meat up there so we also stopped for chickens. I asked Tehpak, who was masterminding the operation, how the chickens were kept refrigerated for the long drive. He said not to worry, they were just butchering the chickens now, and he pointed that out to me. I said, Oh. Then I asked why the fellow in the background was playing a blowtorch over the butchered chickens. The answer seemed obvious to Tehpak. It was to burn off any remaining feather bits. And to kill anything alive that didn't need to be living on the birds.

I said, Oh.
