Foggy Family Outing DSC_2545 (1)

The Family and the Fog A couple of days ago, the fog was playing hide and seek among the islands. I was over near Lower Prospect and saw fog ahead over the open ocean beyond and thought I had plenty of time to get back to Prospect Harbour. Meanwhile the fog was making an end run and getting behind me. And others. Now, having only an electric motor, I was making relatively slow going of it, but around me others fleeing were in more high-powered boats and their wakes were making things kind of rocky. Then the fog reversed course and all the high-powered boats did too, hoping to enjoy a longer outing. So we were a bit like puppets on a string. Then, just off Betty's Island, I spied this family fishing, seemingly unconcerned about the fog. I decided to be unconcerned enough myself to get a picture of them. They saw me with my camera pointed their way and later got in touch. Bradley James Hartlen said they were having a lot of fun and catching a lot of pollock. I sent him the picture I got and got his permission to post it here. Which I am happy to do because to me it points out a certain strain of Nova Scotian resoluteness. They went out to have fun and they had it, fog or no. So here's a tip of the hat from Texas Jim. 15 July 2021 Texas Jim Off Betty's Island, Nova Scotia www.granitecoast.ca
