Morning Contemplation
My seaside cottage is over 200 years old. This seaside cottage, just across the street, has been there a long time too. Perhaps just as long. I would have to go ask the owner, and maybe he is still at coffee, so we will have to be content with that uncertainty. Nevertheless, there is a relaxation involved with living where things remain for a duration consistent with their ability to remain. Older things, older people are good to have around. We can help to provide a sense of continuity. We are not necessarily deceived by those who say that we must grow or die. We may know that we can just be here. Until it's naturally the time to go, here we are. We may be able to relate what it's like to see beyond striving and hatred and fearfulness. Even sorrow may lack the power to keep us in its grip. Also our chimneys are jaunty, even the patches.
