No Passage

I wanted to go out. In the harbour things looked calm. There was scarcely a ripple. I had all day. I could be out for hours. So I loaded up the boat and off I went. My neighbour Sam was working on his dock. As I went by, too far away for speech, he made a motion with his hand. A big rolling motion. I understood. The sea might be a little rough still from the day before. I gave him a thumbs-up. I wouldn't try anything crazy. Still I would go out and enjoy what so few can - the great wide open. I felt daring. I felt privileged. Then I got to harbour's end and took a look. And this is what I saw.
