The Captain’s Longing

Will they be there when we are
And will we ever be?
It seems we have been wandering so long.
Perhaps no one will know us anymore.
Perhaps our houses will have other folks inside.
Perhaps our own folks will have died.
I long to look out through my kitchen window
With that crack in the upper right pane
And swear like a lord I will never
Ever go to sea again.
