Contemplating Chaos

It's safer than it seems. At least
it seems that way, because, you see
there are some rocks you hide the boat behind
that break the rush but still let the camera see over

Still there is tumult and thunder and the heart races
and you're careful not to drift in too close
(there is a hypnotizing quality, eh? Eh?)
because your little motor would be useless out there

but you have to bear witness, yes
you would have done it anyway
your face wet with spray and your lens getting spotted
then you thought of all the fear and the running away everywhere

and you said to yourself this is practice for all the world
so on the lip of the grave, unwavering, possessed
only by love, we will stay till we have, if not the right shot,
at least something effective, there having been so many.
