Cante Jondo del Mar
That's Spanish for Deep Song of the Sea. I use the Spanish here becauseCanteJondo also refers, in Spain and particularly in the Flamenco tradition, to short poems that come deeply from the human condition. The sea conveys that condition to me, though you might think it to be outside humanity. But when I see a wave break on the rocks and hear that profound rumble, I experience the great expanse of mind that is our human heritage - noble, magnificent, accommodating, fearless. I go to sea to hear the sea sing its cante jondo.
