Over the Top

Now in my 70s, I frequently find myself feeling lethargic, which is to say, somehow hanging back from whole-hearted effort. My remedy is 1) to be aware of that and let the self-accusation go, and 2) to make some sort of effort, even if far from heroic. So yesterday there was too much wind to be out in the open ocean, my playground of choice, but rather than abstain altogether I got in the inflatable, with the electric outboard, and cruised the harbour to get my fill of fresh sea air and that sense of personal expansion that only the outdoors can give. I took some photos with my phone. This one shows how windy it was even in the harbour, and also a sense of Prospect Village old and new. That stage has been falling apart since its owner passed shortly after Hurricane Juan, but it's stubborn, in true Nova Scotian fashion, and has refused for over twenty years to give in altogether. I felt a kinship, since I was out there admiring the day when I could have given in to old bones. I could have said, my glass is full, I've lived a lot, I've lived enough. Instead I added a wee drop to the glass to send it over the top. Here's to us all adding wee drops just as long as we can, whether physically, mentally or spiritually, or all three in one. And may love and loving kindness be the overflow.
