Hat
Settling into Timelessness
As into a comfortable chair
Worn where you’ve rested your arms
You settle into timelessness.
You always thought it was a good idea.
The ocean may swallow the earth.
Do you care? You won't be here.
But you don't want to run off the rest of your friends
So that answer stays put in its vault.
What's left to say, anyhoo?
Your torrent of words only fostered more dreams
Of endless time endlessly crowding the cracked roads and highways
And skyscraper weeds overwhelming the heavens.
Here's where sign language comes in.
Your hand on your heart is love's pledge to persist,
To be and to always have been
And to always have room for a few more.
And so you settle into timelessness.
You always thought it was a good idea.
And now your hat can relax on its hook.
The chair knows you, and never forgets.
Understand?
Without beginning or end
the chair knows.
