Swimmers on a Rock

How did we get out here
far from home from
anything we knew

We were just on the dock
squirming into our wetsuits
saying that island there

The next thing we knew
underfoot there was seaweed
then rock

and then just sea beyond
and clouds leading out
to something called the horizon

and in our minds what
and after that
nothing
