Goose
Neighbours of a Moment on a Windy Afternoon
It was "breezin' up", as a stiff wind was once described to me by an old Newfoundland fisherman. Therefore I in my little inflatable with the electric outboard was staying inside the harbour. The inflatable was getting pushed around by the wind, even with the outboard working hard. So I made fast to a mooring so I could stay in one place and take pictures. Normally geese don't let me get this close. But this one seemed to find me harmless. Perhaps our difficulties with the wind lent us a sort of equality. Our proximity was so enjoyable to me, I ventured on a song, only half a verse of which caused the creature to take flight. Oh well, harmless but grating on goose ears, eh?
