New Morning
When we first wake up, it's a new morning. In that first instant, our minds are fresh from sleep. Then almost immediately, faster than a speeding bullet, habitual patterns click in and we are thinking. About what we have to do, about what we haven't done, about problems, about love if we are lucky. We could extend that new morning, however, through the discipline of meditation. By sitting and just witnessing how our mind works, we become aware of this daily ambush of habitual thinking, and actually able to let the thoughts go on by and just continue resting. In the new morning. Which is always new.
