Sea Smoke
How can it be
that this cold sea
is warmer than the air?
As if it were on fire
the water seems to smolder
and to fill the morning air with smoke.
How can it be
that this cold heart
is warmer than the world?
Winter can come so untimely
even a memory of the sun can make
the strangest things seem to burn.
