On the Hard

"On the Hard" is a boating expression meaning a boat stored on land. Because even the softest ground is harder than water. The boat in the photo, however, takes the expression to its limit. At the same time, for me, it exemplifies a certain Nova Scotian spirit. You might call it "making do no matter what". And so, far from seeing this boat as improperly stored, I see it as a stubborn will to prevail. And I admire it. And so I would like to share it with all you here. When the going gets really tough, you might remember it, eh, and take heart.
