Heavy
It's too heavy to lift.
You stare down. Underwater, the vessel
is useless. Your hands stay in your pockets because
what is there to do? You're at the end of the pier
where no one can help you. Your heart is seized up
with the thought, "But this was it! This was how
I'd cross over! What now?"
All too soon the dream expires. You reach
in the cooler, the milk is supposed to be good,
how is it you got the container
that was already sour?
My love the sky is big and space is endless.
Take your hands out and raise them palms up and
offer everything. Hope and fear, all the coins
have two faces, better to be penniless at last.
It's too heavy to lift, so look up, let it be
and discover there's nowhere you needed to go.
The other side, the promised land, the buddha realm,
you are already there. Your broken heart is whole.
Your ruby slippers are for dancing not for transport.
Your mother's arms are still around you. She just says hush
and it's enough and love is everywhere.
