Mother

You were somewhere familiar
You thought if only I …
The ocean was nearby
You could hear the lullaby

Of crashing waves

You had a wet shirt in your hands
A clothespin in your mouth
You were hanging wash
Oh no, you thought, no

This is not my time

And then the bottom fell away
And all was light
