Winter by the Water

We pull in.
We go out when we can
or as our work demands.
Maybe we take a maul to the crib
when the firewood is frozen together.
Some leave to fly south.
Some are happy
or fated to be here
in all kinds of weather.
Maybe we have a cistern. In that case
we have to be careful whenever
we turn on the tap or we reach for the lever.
And now that's the end of this song
Cause it's time to attend to the woodstove
and breakfast.
So long!
