Boats in the Fog

Facebook let me know that last July 4th I posted a picture of a boat in fog too. It was in this same inlet, just over to the right, in fact. Something in the solitude of a boat moored on the ocean always gets my attention. Parked cars not so much (unless they are ancient and in the middle of a forest). But for boats, perhaps it's an affinity. Their unaccompaniedness strikes a chord. We are all in a way rather like that. We come alone, we leave alone. Everyone we meet in the middle is also like that. On a very deep level, whether we think we are social or not, we share an aloneness with moored boats in the fog.
