Old Houseshoes
My daddy wore them then
one day he wasn't there
to wear them anymore so
they were passed to me and
ten more years I've worn
them and resoled them.
Now I've walked more than
a mile in Daddy's shoes
and still don't understand
the man but somehow when
I put them on
my own youth gone and forgotten
I know we're walking
hand in hand
and all is forgiven.
