Stone Boat
The ice had not long melted when we first set out. Our boat was wooden then. And we were what was known as men. But then a big wind and a rocky shore brought us to grief. And then we were no more. But here our spirits sheltered while the granite greened. Here we abided while our boat turned into stone. And here we remain. This lonely island in the North Atlantic is our home. As long as living men keep off. As long as we are left alone we flourish. We who are the last of our kind, time out of mind.
