"The Bow"
With respect and affection and gratitude
deeper than the sea
to those who have taught me
whether I liked it or not
whether I understood it or not
whether I wanted it at all
whether through love fulfilled or denied
through bliss or what is known as hatred
discipline or what is known as delight
I bow down
Though my old friends speak ill
though my new friends say little
though companionship escapes me
these are gifts too great to tell
and so I bow
so to this world so soft or hard
this life so noble or impoverished
this self I was given and propagated on my own
I bow
There is nothing but realization
Nothing but perfect purity
Nothing but seaweed so salty
you don't have to spice it up
at all
