Silly Girl
Suddenly, she said, "I was reading these novels of Wallace Stevens. He was a terrible writer."
It wasn't what we were talking about. It wasn't anywhere near what was going on. It was a brain-rattling non sequitur of the very first order.
So of course I immediately asked if she had read The Palm at the End of the Mind, because, dream or no, I was not about to let a great poet be insulted by anyone, let alone a silly slip of a girl who was enchantingly attractive and couldn't behave according to the stream of things.
Therefore, it being daytime again and myself somewhat awake, I refer you to The Palm at the End of the Mind, the actual poem, because no one, not even myself in my sleep, pulls a fast one on me.
By the way, the picture has nothing to do with all this. I was going to say something entirely different and completely appropriate about the picture. Something having to do with The Great Granite Ram.
Oh well.
