Down by the Water

Yesterday I went on a tour of backyards. Not something you would normally do, but when you cruise Prospect Bay, that is what you see. And I must say it's a very interesting thing to do, because people really love being by the water, and their ways of doing it are various and inventive. Some spend a lot of money, others work it out however they can. My favorites are the latter. Roofs and docks may sag, metal corrode, wood rot, but every spring the green comes back and the flowers flourish. And the water beckons. I never got over Huck Finn's type of life on the water, and I love to be reminded of it. Like bringing back childhood adventures. Or maybe just reviving that sense of adventure. Not necessarily going where no one has gone before, but going where people have been and love to be and who take care of things the best they can.
