Big Bon
I'm not a bonsai. I wasn't planted in a tray. I grow over hard rock with a thin layer of topsoil along which my roots spread in the most passionate embrace. Yet the equal passion of the sea has shaped me like a bonsai. Hence my nickname. Some say Big Bon sounds less than feminine. Have they never heard of women called Big Mama? Tough, inscrutable, sheltering, independent women? Anyway, my beauty tells you what I am. In uselessness I thrive, not good for lumber, having no one to shade, too far from habitation and too singular to be considered for firewood. So I am a queen of sorts, overlooking my queendom the Barrens. You may visit. We are not expecting residents. Good day to you, and may fear never appear insurmountable, because it isn't.
