Lest We Forget

How do birds know when to sing?
The morning would be so much less if they forgot.
And when to stop, and why? And do they tire?
Do they grow hoarse like me?

And what if flowers neglected to bloom?
Where would we be then?
What if they woke, all weary of the world,
And said tomorrow, maybe.

So it is if we, no matter why,
Express no wonder, give no comfort
To awaken by, or be spread bee-like
Throughout this realm of ravaging uncertainty.
