Little Fisher Boy

You have to be patient to fish, said my daddy, and then left me out in the cold. Years went by. My paint flaked and faded. A hurricane brought a tidal surge that took the dock and me away. My daddy came and put me back. A few more years passed. My daddy got old and stopped going out in his boat. Maybe that's why, after a January ice jam took the dock away again, he didn't see me washed up in the weeds, without my hat or pole. It was more years again till my daddy's real son retrieved me and put me back in my old place on the new dock he made. And got me a new hat and pole and a new coat of paint. So I guess I'm pretty lucky after all. Shhhh. We have to be quiet now. You have to be patient to fish. It doesn't matter what you catch. The thing is being patient. That is also what my daddy said.
