The Grass in the Grass
Things seem so important. Today I was out early reinforcing the wall of my dock, that Hurricane Dorian and a succeeding storm had severely eroded, putting my boathouse in danger of sliding into the cove. And tomorrow we are due for another potentially damaging wind. I grabbed a few large stones from the shore nearby to assist in the project. Shortly I received a visit. Neighbours had seen me hefting the stones and wanted them put back, because the road along the shore has also suffered from the surges we get from time to time. So I put all the stones back. For a while I felt bad about having taken the stones ... and especially about having gotten caught doing it! Even though I didn't know it was a no-no. Then I'm processing photos later on (at the same time nursing a sore elbow from shoveling a lot of rock), when I come across this photo I took in the salt marsh. Of grass in grass. There are various types and colours in one small area. And they are all what we call grass. And suddenly I relaxed. The grass blows in the wind off the sea, sometimes furious wind, and then relaxes. All the grasses do that. They bend and shake and shudder, and then they relax. And so do I. And I say that without even having smoked any grass. And relax without having smoked any. But a little gin never hurt.
I love my village.
