Soaring

Our thoughts hold us down more than anything. Patterns become established that we don't even notice. In the morning, for instance, at the moment of waking, it is common to go instantly into our "thoughts for the day". These can include lists of things to be done as well as leftover thoughts from yesterday of hope, disappointment, anger, anxiety, and so on. It's a big burden. We're weighted down from the get-go. We can't look forward to our day. We may not want to get out of bed.

What we can do to counteract such a pattern is simply to recognize it. Recognize it, and rest. When you wake, instead of letting the thoughts fill you up, let the very first one tip you off and let it and everything after it go. Sound a little alarm, like by saying "Aha!" Then rest as the whole storyline goes raging by. This is a gradual process. It's a rut that is deep in dried mud, so we have to water it every morning, every time we wake, time after time. But gradually the rut fills itself in, the burden lightens up, we don't start off so stuck in our ways. Getting out of bed might become less of a trial. We might feel the incredible lightness of being.

We might even soar into our day.
