From a Window

"But Dad, why can't we stop?"

"I've told you before, son, we've got to be at the airport."

"You also said this might be it, our last time here in Nova Scotia."

"Yes, it might. I hate it, but it might. It's politics."

"Then let me just get one last picture. It's so pretty."

"We're already late."

"At least slow down. I've got to get the window down."

"Can't do it, son, I'm sorry."

His mother tried to comfort him with an apologetic look from her seat in the front of the car, a sympathetic look that said she understood his frustration but father was father, but he wasn't paying her any attention. The ocean was shining, the angle was perfect, and the tears were already obscuring his vision as he snapped his last shot.
