Engaged Again

The Cape Islanders were iced in and the workboats on the hard gathering snow. It was some sort of circus with no people and no performances just a display to keep you spellbound. Suddenly I felt like a bear on a high wire, a miraculous bear on a high wire. I never expected such a perfect balance. There I was, sixty-six and unmarried, standing precariously on an icy promontory looking down and away, and tranquility was all I beheld, inside and out.
