Still The Gulls Fly Over
Still the gulls fly over
though the chimney's long been cold
and whatever we said to each other forgotten
Still they cry out for their share
though there's no one to feed them anymore
nor any catch to feed them with
Still they soar, and still along the shore
they keep their watch, purportedly for fish
along the unforgiving granite shore
but I know better. I know what they wish
is just once more to hear her voice, whoever
she was, saying thank the Lord you made it back
your dinner's ready shut the door and leave off
kissing me, we've time and to spare
